About Best Western Downtown Casper Hotel
Old Western Roots
Casper was a central hub during the great westward migration of the 19th Century. The Oregon, California, Pony Express, Bozeman and Mormon trails all converged in Casper. More than half a million settlers took the arduous trek on these trails, dreaming of a better life. Some carved their names into Independence Rock, an important historical landmark less than an hour from Casper off Highway 220. Many died along the way, but some stayed, put down roots, and what began as a cluster of crude shacks grew into a small town.
After the rough-and-tumble cowboy days, Casper grew over the years into a retail, medical and energy-industry service hub for Wyoming and the region.
As ground zero for history buffs who want to learn about the gritty lore and legends of the Old West, the development of the energy sector, WWII or more, Casper’s rich history has fascinating stories to tell.
Our Story
Best Western Downtown Casper Hotel was originally known as the Ramada Inn. It was one of the region’s first new luxury hotels built in the post-War boom, opening to much fanfare in April 1966.
The property was renamed Casper Inn in 1989 and became the Parkway Plaza in 1994. Over the years it hosted everything from craft fairs to boxing matches to speeches by Wyoming dignitaries like Sen. Al Simpson and future vice president Dick Cheney.
Today, Best Western Downtown Casper Hotel’s renovation pays homage to its rich and storied history:
- The hotel’s walls feature Barnwood sourced from all over Wyoming—including Sun Ranch where the outlaws stayed!
- In the restaurant and throughout the hallway leading to the restaurant and lounge, there are beautiful wood carved pieces created by the artist William Faris (pieces of history beloved by the Casper community).
- A weather-bound book of historical clippings.
- Display cases housing pieces of local history.

Guest Reviews
"Front desk staff was friendly. Next to a freeway but could barely hear the traffic once inside. The room was clean and bed comfortable just needs some updates. As I walked my dog I noticed a running trail, a river and a small mini golf course. There is also a drive thru Starbucks right next to hotel. Downtown is only a 5 minute drive. Overall great stay after a long day of driving."
"Anytime we travel to Wyoming from our home in Missouri, this our favorite place to stay! Be it on short notice or planned in advance, they've always been very accommodating. Beds are the most comfortable I've slept in, to the point that we're getting same mattress for our home..."
"Friendly staff and FULL breakfast buffet! Downtown is within walking distance. This hotel is undergoing some big renovations and you can tell it’s gonna be beautiful. For now, you get great service, clean room, and a big breakfast for under a $100/night. Highly recommend this place if you’re passing through Casper."
